When looking to buy steps for the workplace, it’s likely you’ll opt for a ‘standard’ version. This could be due to a number of different reasons. Perhaps it doesn’t necessarily matter what tread type you have, or alternatively you haven’t looked into which would be most beneficial for your workplace.
The most common treads are;
- Ribbed Rubber
- Aluminium
- Punched Metal
- Anti-Slip
Tread is essentially the surface of the step you stand on. Different industries will prefer or perhaps even require a certain tread type. Diving in a little further, we’re going to look at the benefits of each tread and premises they’re often used. Our Premier Commercial Warehouse Steps offer all four types of stair tread.
Ribbed Rubber
Usually seen as the standard in the stair tread field; ribbed rubber boast good wear and tear properties. Although perhaps slightly harder to maintain than others; the thick rubber makes for a long-lasting platform. This means the steps have a long life span ahead of them when used indoors. Therefore resulting in a cost-effective investment.
Aluminium Plate
Benefits of aluminium plate treads are their non-skid and low maintenance properties. The diamond texture imprinted reduces the risk of slipping and also makes them a perfect candidate if situated outdoors at all. The reduced maintenance level means they are easier to wipe clean.
Punched Metal
Another different type in the form of steel. The punched design is self-cleaning due to the present holes. In addition to this, it is also considerably corrosion resistant. Alike other tread types it is also anti-slip with the punched holes somewhat acting as a barrier so that shoes can’t slip off.
Anti-Slip
A gritty sandpaper-like surface which makes it very difficult to slip off. Ideal for use in catering environments or places that deal with liquids because should any residue manage to get on
to the steps, the overall anti-slip properties won’t be affected.
To conclude, the type of tread surface you choose can be down to personal preference, or you can look and see if (health and safety) improvements can be made. Either way, there is plenty of variety out there!
