While many people are converting their front garages to extra rooms; there is also a way to keep your garage and increase storage. If you have a garage, it’s a worthy asset of your property. Despite not seeming like it offers the benefit of an extra room, for some it will safely store the car away overnight, and for others its used to store large items or stuff you’re not yet ready to throw away. You can increase storage space by simply utilising your garage, here’s how…
Assess what you want to store
Make your expectations realistic, it is a garage after all. What we mean by this is, you have to be aware that garages are prone to dampness so don’t just store anything in sight. There are many ways to utilise a this space for additional storage. If you’re a keen DIY kind of person then a garage makes a pretty neat workshop. It may be that you’ve got a lot of little bits here and there stored away in the shed but it takes a little while finding them. Why don’t you gather it all up and set up your own workroom?
All you need is:
- Workbench
- Shelving and/or Stackable Cages
Planning in advance
Galvanised is the most popular type of shelving for garage use due to the reasons mentioned above. Our steel shelving is effectively corrosion resistant and therefore suitable for damp environments. It can easily store anything from tools to gardening products, compost etc. The UDL of our special galvanised shelving is 200kg per shelf level (when weight is distributed evenly).
If you’re not interested in spending much time in the garage and want it purely for storage space, it’s worth taking a look at the two main storage systems and deciding between the two. We have stackable cages and shelving. If you remember the old PE sheds from school, they used to have both. Shelving would store the long items; cricket bats, tennis rackets, rounders bats etc. whilst a retention unit or stackable cage would be used to keep the footballs, baseballs, tennis balls etc in one place. Therefore it’s very much about planning in advance roughly what you will be storing away in order to find the most effective system for you.
